In Livingston we gassed up and filled our coffee cups and headed East on I-90. We got off the freeway to explore Billings a bit. Wow, this is a very industrial city! Major oil refineries and a railroad yard right in the middle of downtown. Not at all attractive! Although there is very cool walking/bike path along the top of the bluff, with great views.
Weather today was warm - mid 70s! The highway across this part of Montana is rolling hills, cattle ranches, lots of nothing. Great 80mph road, little traffic. We did come across an interesting place, however: Pompey's Pillar National Monument. This was built during the 2005 Lewis and Clark craze to commemorate William Clark's trip down the Yellowstone River on his return to St. Louis. He engraved his initials in the rock. I did the 200 step climb to the top for a glorious view!
Arrived In Miles City about 5:30 and found our Econolodge, your typical down in the mouth older property that Choice Hotels group is upgrading. Cheap room - we used our points!
Great dinner at an awesome restaurant next door called Blackiron Grill - rotisserie pork loin and mac and cheese with brisket!
Three hours drive tomorrow, due south to Medora.
