Day Nine - Sheridan, Yellowstone, Rexburg

After a cloudy start, it turned into another sunny day! We leave I-90 just above Sheridan, WY and head west on Rt 14, across rolling hills toward the mountains in the distance. We start climbing, with great views to the east, until we reach 8700' and lots of snow. There seems to be a lot of winter sports opportunities up here.

The road down the other side, heading to Greybull, is totally different, passing through rocky canyons and spectacular formations.  When we reach the bottom we are once again in a valley plain, heading for the mountains of the Yellowstone. We arrive in Cody for lunch and find a much larger and busier town than we remembered. This is the home of five museums under the banner of Buffalo Bill. We've seen some of it before; no time today, but well worth the visit.

Once across this valley, we start climbing again, once more going up to 8500'. Lots of snow up here! Eventually, we come to the Yellowstone East Entrance, which only opened a few days ago. From there we continue down to the Lake Yellowstone area. Our goal for the day was to go through the park and end up in Rexburg - which we did! So we just drove through, without stopping. Oddly, virtually no wildlife sitings.  (We had seen some big horn sheep earlier, but that we before we got into the park. And, out in the valleys, there are pronghorns everywhere!)
